BEng (Hons) Software Engineering
The BEng (Hons) Software Engineering top-up is delivered online by Western International College Online (WINC) with the final degree awarded by the University of Bolton. The programme has been designed collaboratively working with industrial partners to ensure that students study a comprehensive program of relevant industrial topics. Many graduates find successful careers in software engineering. The syllabus has an emphasis on real world experience which is informed by the latest research and global practices. Coursework throughout the course utilises realistic scenarios intended to prepare students for their career after university. This applies both to the technical areas studied, but also the output required from the student such as technical proposals or reports to management. A large amount of the coursework undertaken by students on this course is project based and involves group working. The ability to work successfully and productively in teams is an essential element of modern software engineering. It will enable students to develop skills such as advanced IT skills, analytical skills, communication, project management and organisation – all essential for the workplace. Regardless of the industry students intend to pursue careers in, the BEng (Hons) Software Engineering top-up degree will provide graduates with the necessary skills to succeed. Short Course in Cyber Security (SCCS)
The Short Course in Cyber Security will provide participants with knowledge of the fundamental principles, underlying theory and practical skills employed in securing information and networks. It will allow learners to assess the security risks inherent in computer networks and the technologies that can be employed to counter such risks. It covers cryptographic algorithms, including practical examples of breaking codes. As a practical course that teaches the principles of network security and cryptography. Learners will be able to acquire and demonstrate their practical, work ready skills in this field.
Short Course in Computer Basics (SCCB)
Our Short Course in Computer Basics will provide students with an introduction to the key Computer Basics that will be required in their studies. Students will learn basic skills in using word processors, spreadsheets and presentation software. The module will focus on the Microsoft Office suite, with reference being made to Microsoft Office 2010 software throughout. However, the module has been specifically designed to allow the relevant skills to be taught regardless of the software version being used. All material can be adapted to other versions of Microsoft Office (such as the 2007 version) and also other word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software package; students should not be disadvantaged through the use of any particular version.
Short Course in Artificial Intelligence (SCAI)
The Short Course in Artificial Intelligence (AI) short course will provide learners with the foundation and branches of Artificial Intelligence, such as search strategies, knowledge representation and reasoning techniques. This course will also introduce a range of well-known techniques and applications in artificial intelligence, such as fuzzy logic machine learning, expert systems, natural language processing, and intelligent agents.
Pre-Master’s in Business (PMB)
This programme is designed to enable candidates to efficiently bridge the gap between their existing qualifications and a master’s qualification. On successful completion students will be able to progress directly on to a master’s degree programme. Pre-Masters programmes are designed to prepare international students fully for studying at postgraduate level and deliver high-quality students. It allows candidates to upgrade their English language ability to a level suitable for master’s entrance, while also being introduced to studying a range of business-related subjects through the medium of English. The programme aims to raise the academic and English Language skills of the learner whilst preparing them for a variety of master’s related subjects through choosing a choice of elective units, supporting the appropriate subject choice.
