1. What level is this subject?

NCC Education subjects at this stage sit at the International Foundation Diploma (IFD) level.

What this means in simple terms

· Academic level: A-Levels equivalent

· Purpose: University preparation

· Outcome: Direct progression to degree programmes

The IFD is designed for students who want a clear, recognised route into university, without relying purely on one national exam system.

Passing the IFD shows universities that you are academically ready, not just good at exams.

2. Why NCC Education assessments feel “friendlier” than expected

A common reaction from students after seeing their first paper is:

“The questions are straightforward. They’re testing understanding, not tricks.”

That’s intentional.

NCC Education assessments are built to check:

· Do you understand key ideas?

· Can you explain concepts clearly?

· Can you apply knowledge in a logical way?

They are not designed to confuse you or reward memorised model answers.

3. Understanding the exam structure (and how to score in each part)

Using IFD Biology as a typical exam-based subject example, the paper is divided into three sections.

Section A: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

What this section tests

· Core concepts

· Basic definitions

· Clear understanding of functions and processes

Typical question style (simplified example)

Which structure is responsible for energy production in a cell?

You’re not expected to recall obscure facts. If you understand what each structure does, you can usually eliminate wrong options quickly.

How to score well

· Read carefully

· Don’t overthink

· Trust your understanding

This section is often one of the easiest places to secure marks.

Section B: Short Answer Questions

What this section tests

· Whether you can explain ideas clearly

· Whether you know what the examiner is asking for

Typical question style (simplified example)

State two functions of the nucleus.

Notice the wording:

· “State”

· “Two functions”

That tells you exactly how many points are needed.

How to score well

· Match your points to the marks

· Use clear, simple language

· Avoid unnecessary paragraphs

You are rewarded for being clear and accurate, not for writing more.

Section C: Structured / Longer Questions

This section looks harder, but it is actually very structured.

Typical question style (simplified example)

In four key points, describe the structure of a protein.

The examiner is telling you how to score:

· One idea per point

· Logical sequence

· Relevant terminology

How to score well

· Plan briefly before writing

· Separate your points clearly

· Focus on explanation, not memorisation

Students who understand the topic usually perform better than expected here.

4. What counts as “doing well”?

Here’s the benchmark students should know:

· 70% and above = Distinction

· Distinction reflects strong university readiness

· Passing the IFD enables progression to universities worldwide

This includes pathways into:

· UK universities

· International branch campuses

· Degree programmes across multiple regions

The IFD is not a dead end. It is designed as a gateway qualification.

5. Not all NCC Education subjects are exam-based

This is an important side note many students don’t realise early enough.

With NCC Education, assessment depends on the subject.

Business & Computing pathways

· 100% coursework-based

· No final exams

· Assessment through:

o Assignments

o Reports

o Applied projects

o Case-based work

Example: Art & Design (General)

The Art & Design IFD module is assessed entirely through a global assignment, forming 100% of the grade

Art and Design (General) Global…

.

Students complete:

· Research and idea development

· Experimentation with materials

· Final outcomes

· A curated digital portfolio and evaluation

There is no exam hall pressure, just structured project work with clear marking criteria.

This suits students who:

· Learn better by doing

· Prefer projects over timed tests

· Want early exposure to university-style assessment

6. Final advice to students

If you are worried about difficulty, focus on this:

You do not need perfect memory. You need clear understanding.

Students who do well typically:

· Attend classes consistently

· Learn concepts, not answers

· Practise explaining ideas in their own words

Once you understand how the questions are designed, the assessment stops feeling intimidating and starts feeling manageable and fair.

That is exactly what NCC Education intends.
